OpenAI announced on Twitter that ChatGPT will soon let third-party app developers seamlessly integrate their apps and services into ChatGPT.

The new app SDK will allow developers to integrate their apps into ChatGPT. For example, if you want a fresh Spotify playlist with the 2024 top songs, ChatGPT can search for the songs and build a Spotify playlist using the app SDK within the conversation.

Users can interact with an app simply by stating its name. For example: 'Spotify, make a playlist for my party this Friday.' ChatGPT can also retrieve information from apps. For instance, if you’re searching for a home nearby, ChatGPT can gather listings from Zillow.

Currently, ChatGPT supports a select number of integrations, including Spotify, Canva, Zillow, Expedia, Booking.com, Coursera, and Figma.

These integrations leverage the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to access app data.

The Apps SDK is now available in preview for developers, with full developer support planned for later this year. Integrations with DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, and AllTrails are coming soon.
