Mastodon, the open-source and decentralized social media platform, is introducing a new "Packs" feature that enables users to discover communities and curate feeds, similar to the Starter Packs available on Bluesky. A Pack will present a curated list of accounts. For instance, a user may create a Pack titled “Tech News” containing accounts such as The Verge, MacRumors, and 9to5Google, allowing others to follow these sources easily.
Mastodon will provide users with the option to opt out of Packs, although other users may initially include your account in a Pack. You will receive a notification if you are added to a Pack. Unlike on Bluesky, Mastodon will also allow you to remove your account from any Pack to which you have been added.
Mastodon plans to launch Packs as part of the onboarding process when someone creates an account in Mastodon Version 4.6.
