On Friday the folks at Emojipedia spotted a new draft list by the Unicode Consortium with nine new emojis that might be making its way to your iPhone (and all other Apple devices) in iOS 27. Alongside the nine new emojis are ten new skin tones.
The new emojis are a draft and need to be finalized and approved first, before Apple can roll them out to the iPhone.
These new additions consist of the following:
A smiley face with squinting eyes
A leftward thumb sign gesture
A rightward thumb sign gesture
A monarch butterfly (as opposed to the non-specifying 🦋)
A pickle (as opposed to a 🥒 Cucumber)
A lighthouse
A meteor (as opposed to a ☄️ Comet)
An eraser, for removing pencil markings from paper
A net with a handle, like those used to catch bugs
Apple still hasn't adopted the Unicode 17 characters that were revealed in July of 2025 and are expected to roll out in iOS 26.4. Following this trend we can assume the Unicode 18 characters will roll out to Apple devices as a part of iOS 27.4.
