Google’s first Assistant, Google Assistant, is going away for good. The assistant has been long gone on your Pixel, but it’s still alive for now, in your smart home.
If you use a Google Smart Home, you know you need to say “Hey Google, turn on Bedroom Lamp” or “Hey Google, what’s the weather”. But with Google Gemini running your hosue, you can nowan be a “looser” with your requests.
Here’s a scenario where Gemini might come in handy:
Gemini, which day this weekend is best for an outdoor birthday party for my kid?
Gemini: Saturday looks sunnier than Sunday, so that might be your best option.”
You: Great—can you add what I’ll need for a birthday cake to my shopping list?
Gemini: Sure! Are there any dietary restrictions I should know about, and how many people will be at the party?
You: No allergies—about 12 kids.
Gemini: Got it. I’ve added the right amount of ingredients for a cake to serve 12 kids to your shopping list.
And all of this can be done by a smart speaker, hands-free.
Unlike Amazon’s Alexa AI, Gemini for Google Home is launching gradually, so it may take a while before your home has access.
You also don’t need the latest device to use Gemini; you can have complete conversations even with older devices, like the company’s original, as described by the Washington Post as an 'air freshener-shaped speaker.'

Starting this month, Google will gradually replace Google Assistant with its AI chatbot, Gemini.
